Neighbours fans are attempting to save the Australian soap after it was axed for a second time.

Neighbours first came to an end in 2022 after UK broadcaster Channel 5, who had funded most of the production, pulled its financial commitment. Amazon revived the show for its Freevee service, which later rebranded to become part of Prime Video.

Now Amazon has chosen not to renew its deal, less than two years on from its first revival. Digital Spy has looked at the wide media landscape turbulence to explain why that is.

In response to this sudden cancellation, fans have started a Change.org petition to convince the powers-that-be to keep the soap going.

"As Neighbours faces its second cancellation, it's clear that this is more than just a TV show, it is a cultural institution," the petition reads.

"Fans aren't just asking for another season were asking to keep a part of our lives alive. Neighbours has been there through thick and thin, and it deserves to stay, not just for us, but for future generations who need a show that celebrates life's ups and downs with warmth and heart."

At the time of writing, the petition has over 3,000 signatures and is aiming for 5,000.

Earlier in the week, before fans and the cast alike learned of the decision, Terese Willis actor Rebekah Elmaloglou told the audience to go direct to Amazon and let the conglomerate know how devoted the fanbase is.

"Keep doing what you're doing. Keep emailing Amazon and let them know how much you love the show," she said.

"They do all the contracts now, so go to the source! We still don't know what's happening with the show later this year."

Neighbours releases new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays for free on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video in the UK and US. In Australia, the show airs from Mondays to Thursdays at 4pm on Channel 10, with a 6.30pm repeat screening on 10 Peach Comedy.
