Home and Away's Kate Ritchie made an emotional return to her Nova radio show, six months after stepping away for her mental health.

The broadcaster and actress, who is also known and loved for portraying Sally Fletcher in the Australian soap, reunited with her co-hosts Michael "Wippa" Wipfli and Ryan "Fitzy" Fitzgerald during Friday's show.

"We've missed you, Kate," said Wipfli. "It's so good to have you back, mate, it really is."

"Sydney has missed you," he continued. "I've had so many people stop me and say, 'How's Kate? When's she coming back? We miss Kate."

Addressing fans live on the air, Ritchie replied that it was "so good" to be back in the studio and added that she feels "incredibly grateful" for a much-needed break.

Back in February, Richie first announced her decision to temporarily leave the show and focus on her mental health. In a statement posted on Instagram, she explained: "I struggle with mental health issues at times, which are deeply personal. This has proven to be a bigger challenge than I imagined.

"So, I have decided to take a break from the show and the team that I love, to focus on my health. I want to thank all of those who are helping me through this very difficult time. I love you. Thank you, Nova, for being there when I need you."

Alongside Ritchie's return to radio this week, the star has also returned to Instagram and shared her first post since March.

Noting that Instagram had gone through a lot of updates, Ritchie wrote: "It has been so long since I've posted to social media that it's taken me an hour to get this far, as everything seems to have changed, I got sidetracked and now it's time for bed! So.. I will just let today's podcasts do the talking via the link in the @fitzywippakate bio."
