Hollyoaks has confirmed which character had Clare Devine's money in an unexpected reveal.

Clare surprisingly returned to the village last week following a 12-year absence, with the villain being revealed as 'Mrs Banks', the wife of the corrupt police officer Alistair.

The late detective inspector had been running an illegal operation with Clare's sister Grace Black, with one arc seeing Diane Hutchinson (who had been romantically involved with Alistair) being given £2 million in cash as a gang member mistook her for Mrs Banks.

Grace eventually discovered that Diane was in possession of the money, with the schemer informing her sister. Wednesday's (4 June) episode saw Clare begin her plans to retrieve it, with the character having a brief reunion with Warren Fox.

Clare promptly headed to Diane's, expressing ambivalence to the fact the latter had been seeing her husband. What wasn't forgiven, however, was the issue of the money, as Clare menacingly stated that Diane had "crossed the line".

After denying her involvement in the operation, Clare promptly interrogated Diane, though there was a twist when Diane claimed she was no longer in possession of the cash, which she dubbed "blood money".

At the same time, Frankie, Dillon and Vicky, who had all been victims of the gang, were questioned by the police following Banks's death, though they all refrained from divulging Grace's crimes as they feared for their safety.

After recalling her horrific ordeal, Frankie inadvertently confirmed Grace's guilt, though she left the room before the officer could make further enquiries.

Dillon and Vicky also shared details of their trauma, though the latter was hiding something.

In a final twist, it was revealed that Vicky was the figure in possession of Clare's money, with the teenager looking flustered as she considered her next move. Will she be able to keep her secret hidden, or will Clare manage to discover its location?

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
