Hollyoaks star Jorgie Porter has confirmed that she has increased security at her home after a scary incident last year which saw masked strangers attempt to break in.

Porter, who returned to her Hollyoaks role as Theresa McQueen earlier this year, shared the news of the attempted burglary when it took place in October, telling her Instagram followers in a video that she was "really upset, really scared and really angry" about the incident.

She confirmed that she had been inside the house at the time with her fiancé, Ollie Piotrowski, and their baby son, Forest.

The actress has now told The Mirror's Invite Only podcast that it was the family's pet dog, Stella, who raised the alarm.

"Our dog Stella saved us. She scared them away, so they didn't get in," she said, adding that their friends and family, as well as the police, had stayed at the house with them to reassure them following the attempted break-in.

The star explained that she and her fiancé have now increased the security levels at their home, and they have even considered adding another pet to the family to act as an extra guard dog.

"We were even looking to get another dog because we thought, you know, that was so brilliant, what Stella did," she said. "We joke that we've given her a wage and a security badge."

Porter's Hollyoaks character Theresa only returned to the village in January following a stint away, but she's already been caught up in plenty of drama.

After making a surprise return as one of the passengers involved in the devastating multi-vehicle car crash which led to Ella Richardson's death, Theresa had a one-night stand with fellow returnee Cleo McQueen's new boyfriend, Abe Fielding.

While Cleo has decided to give things another go with Abe, it's clear that he is still hiding something from his girlfriend.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
