Spoilers for Hollyoaks follow.

Tonight's episode of Hollyoaks featured the return of infamous serial killer Silas Blissett. Silas, played by Jeff Rawle, has previously terrorised the characters of the Channel 4 soap on a number of occasions.

Silas returned to our screens tonight for the first time since his return was announced. Since then he has been a threatening, dark presence in the lives of the McQueens. Specifically, he has been exchanging messages with his great-grandson, Bobby (Jayden Fox), hoping to turn him against his family.

Early on in the episode, Bobby told his mother, Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe), that he was trying to protect her from Silas, but warned they'll never be safe. Later, policeman Sam (Matthew McGivern) told Mercedes that they had Silas in custody after they spotted him on CCTV. Mercedes then pledged to ensure this "nightmare" ends once and for all.

Mercedes tried to follow through on this pledge by taking a gun to the police station, hoping to catch Silas as he arrived, but the man claiming to be Silas turned out to be an impostor — Silas' friend Mick. Mick taunted and threatened Mercedes, telling her that Silas was coming for her and her family.

"He knew you'd be here. And he told me to pass on a message... He's coming for you," Mick laughed.

Mercedes then received a photo showing CCTV footage of Mick at the police station posing as Silas. A note was attached to the photo warning Mercedes that "this time, I'm really coming for you".

Then, Silas finally returned to our screen. He spoke with Mick, saying he plans to tie up a few loose ends and then simply wait, while explaining the importance of the photo posted through Mercedes' letterbox.

"It will scare Mercedes and put her on her guard. When I don’t make an appearance, she’ll grow impatient and think she’s safe," Silas said.

The two then shared a toast over a glass of wine, but, in the post-credits scene, viewers saw just how ruthless and violent Silas can be as it was revealed he had murdered Mick by poisoning him. Silas thanked his friend for his service before donning his infamous cap and leaving.
