The Deveraux family drama came to a head in tonight's (March 11) E4 first look Hollyoaks as Martine and Toby had a heart to heart and she discovered the true identity of Celeste Faroe.

It was previously revealed that Martine actually gave birth to triplets, not twins, when she welcomed son Mitchell (who she kept) into the world. Not only is Toby her son, but Celeste is her long-lost daughter. While Martine recently found out Toby's true identity, the two lied and said Celeste was his wife.

Tonight, fans saw Martine and Toby sit down together to have a very candid conversation about what really happened all those years ago when she gave up two of her babies.

Martine was shocked to learn that Toby didn't have the picture perfect upbringing she had hoped for, as he told her about how the doctor who took he and Celeste in used them in a "twisted" child behaviour experiment.

"I'll never forgive myself," she said, as Toby opened up about how he didn't get any of the "warmth, love or attention" that his sister got. He revealed that he "communicated" with Celeste but they were not treated the same.

Toby then lied and told his birth mum that his sister was dead, which left her so shell-shocked she had to leave and couldn't show any emotion until she eventually broke down in tears.

However, Martine finally realised the truth about her daughter when she saw Toby and Celeste talking to Mitchell. It became clear that she wasn't Toby's wife.

Martine tried to reach out to her long lost daughter, but wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms as Celeste had previously vowed to make her birth mum "pay" for what happened.

Celeste slapped Martine in the face and told her in no uncertain terms: "I have no mother."

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Martine actress Kelle Bryan previously opened up about the emotional storyline.

"Martine thought she was doing the right thing as a parent. She was brought up in a strict family, where it was frowned upon to be pregnant out of wedlock at the age of 17," she said.

"But what's even worse for her is hearing what Toby's experience was. She was able to pacify herself by thinking that Toby had a better life and everything was great."

Digital Spy also spoke to Celeste actress Andrea Ali, who told us what could be next for the character.

"First and foremost I think she wants answers for herself, to have an understanding as to why she was abandoned. I don't even think Toby and Celeste had an idea as to how far this would go, or what's going to happen next," she said.

"She's not as predictable as she may seem, and I think she may take a turn either way, depending on how she feels on the day. She is very temperamental."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
