Hollyoaks star Kelle Bryan has spoken to Digital Spy about the latest bombshell revelation involving her character Martine Deveraux.

Tuesday's E4 first look episode (March 10) revealed that mysterious Celeste Faroe is the long-lost daughter of Martine, which finally explains why she's so personally invested in taking revenge.

Viewers had always been led to believe that Martine gave birth to twins, before raising son Mitchell and giving away his brother Toby. However, the show's latest scenes revealed that she actually carried triplets, giving both Toby and Celeste away after they were born.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Kelle warned that Martine should be worried about Toby and Celeste's ongoing desire for revenge, which won't fizzle out anytime soon.

Kelle told us: "If Martine finds out who Celeste really is, she'd be swept up in thinking that she has got her children back together and wondering how she's going to fix this.

"Martine's priority would be to sort this out. She has no clue over the level of damage that has been caused to her children psychologically through their upbringing – although she's going to find out!

"That only starts to spill out over time, so her overwhelming priority would be to fix this and put a band-aid on it, rather than rip the band-aid off and actually address what's going on here.

"Martine's motherly instinct is there and it's over-arching, but she's not aware of the revenge plans being formed against her."

Toby and Celeste were introduced to Hollyoaks in November last year and viewers were initially led to believe that they were husband and wife. After tell-tale signs that all was not as it seemed, viewers have now finally been let in on the secret.

Asked whether she always knew about the game-changing revelations ahead for Martine, Kelle told us: "When I first joined the show, our executive producer Bryan Kirkwood discussed Mitchell's coming out storyline and Walter being a pastor.

"That was why I signed up for the show, because of the journey we were about to take. Dealing with that narrative was exactly what I wanted to do. I am a Christian, I am black, and I have been raised around those stereotypical Pentecostal old-school mentalities. I really wanted to challenge that within my own community.

"I had no idea of the other storyline twists when I first signed, but Bryan is such a great captain of the ship. There were months of planning and he did tell me what was going to happen. I wanted us to work on this story really carefully and take the audience on a journey.

"I was genuinely so excited to finally film these scenes, because we had really waited it out. I know it was really frustrating, especially for Bobby [Gordon] and Andrea [Ali], who play Toby and Celeste.

"They had to come in and be so patient for months, when as an actor, you just want to get in there and kick off.

"They had to be patient, so this week is massive for them as well because they get to flex their muscles and start to tell the truth of why they're in the village."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
