Emmerdale has reassured fans after Monday's (6 July) distressing scenes involving beloved dog Monty. On the soap's YouTube channel they shared a heartwarming video of Monty during filming of his dramatic scenes alongside his four-legged stunt double.
The video, which was also posted to Instagram, showed Cain Dingle actor Jeff Hordley as well as Natalie J Robb (Moira) interacting with Monty on set before filming began.

The episode saw Kyle start a fire in the shed, without realising that Monty was stuck inside. When the teen called out for help, Cain and Moira came running with Cain able to rescue his best friend from the burning shed.
In the behind the scenes video, viewers saw that a fake pooch was used for some of Monty's more dramatic scenes. The video was captioned: "We take care of our dogs... whether they’re real or fake!"

Following Monty's rescue he was brought to the vets to be checked over by Paddy. Paddy later told them that Monty had suffered significant smoke inhalation, made worse due to his age.
Monty was kept at the vets' surgery for further checks but when Paddy went to visit the Dingles later that night he had devastating news, as Monty's blood is showing signs of cancer.

The news is made even more heartbreaking by Cain's prostate cancer diagnosis and his struggles with treatment.
An Emmerdale insider previously told Digital Spy: "Monty's prognosis breaks Cain's heart. He looks into the dear dog's eyes and sees his own pain reflected back. He'd do anything to save Monty, so why can't he accept his own treatment?"
"Cain knows he should have his radiotherapy. But it's only the thought of losing Monty, instead of trying to get him treatment, that opens Cain's eyes. If he can help the family dog in any way possible, then why can't he give himself the best chance?"
