Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Tonight's (6 July) Emmerdale saw the return of a fan-favourite character after the Dingles received some devastating news. Since Cain's prostate cancer diagnosis, the Dingles have been struggling — particularly son Kyle, who's found the news difficult to deal with.
Kyle has acted out by starting fires in the village before Graham Foster lent a hand to help him to come to terms with his feelings. But Kyle suffered a massive setback when he found out that Joe Tate was responsible for his mother's death.
To make matters worse, Cain ordered Graham to stay away from Kyle.

On Monday's episode, things were still tense between Cain and Kyle, despite Moira's best efforts. They failed to communicate at breakfast, and Kyle left after Moira tried to have a heart-to-heart with him.

Later, when she tried talking to Cain, the pair were interrupt by someone screaming for help. They rushed out to discover that Kyle had started a fire in the shed — and that Monty the dog was trapped inside.
Kyle didn't realise that the beloved dog was inside the shed, but luckily, Cain was able to get him out. Cain then brought Monty to the vet to be checked, while Kyle insisted that he didn't mean to hurt him.
At the vet, Paddy told Moira and Cain that Monty had suffered significant smoke inhalation, made worse due to his age. At home, Kyle waited for news on Monty before Graham arrived to help him and Cain build a new shed.

Another person who eagerly wanted Monty to return was Belle's beloved dog Piper, who was worriedly barking as the family waited for news. Piper was a big part of Belle's storyline with Tom King and has been much missed by fans.
On X, fans were delighted to see Piper make a return, with one viewer writing: "Welcome back Piper!" Another another added: "Emmerdale heard us!! Piper!"
Sadly, later in the day, Paddy came with heartbreaking news that Monty's blood shows signs of cancer.
