Emmerdale spoilers follow from Friday's episode (3 July), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn't aired on ITV1 yet.

Emmerdale reveals the latest update on Joe Tate and Dawn Fletcher's rocky relationship tonight – and it's good news. Well, Joe certainly thinks so.

The couple have recently taken a short break from our screens after Joe received a final ultimatum from Dawn over their future, but they're coming back in focus ahead of a huge summer storyline.

We haven't seen much of Joe and Dawn since then, but Kim Tate tries to get the gossip in Friday's episode…

"I'm aware things have been a bit tense, so I've been keeping out the way," notes Kim.

"Watching from the wings, are you?" Joe replies. "Keeping an eye on us? Well, I don't want to tempt fate but it feels like we're actually going somewhere."

Kim responds positively to the news – predicting that the couple will make it through their troubles after "time and patience". We wouldn't bet on it!

The on-screen update comes days after Emmerdale confirmed that Joe and Dawn will take centre stage in one of the show's biggest summer storylines.

With the countdown to their wedding under way, there may still be more trouble ahead – regardless of what Joe currently thinks…

"Although her wedding day is fast approaching, Dawn struggles to see her ex Billy dating Gabby," a show spokesperson explained.

"Soon even Joe, the groom to be, starts to wonder if Gabby might be right about Dawn still having feelings for Billy.

"Will the wedding of the summer go off without a hitch or will jealousy destroy their big day?"

Tabloid reports earlier this year suggested that Olivia Bromley, who plays Dawn, will be leaving the soap this year – so fans are sure to wonder if this story will culminate in her departure.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
