Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale's Kev Townsend makes an unexpected return to the village tonight, after almost seven months away. The character, who was last seen on New Year's Day, is thrown right back into the drama as his biological son Lewis Barton is kidnapped.
In tonight's episode, Ross Barton receives an ominous text telling him Lewis is in danger unless his dad returns 'Penny'. Not realising Kev is Lewis' dad, Ross sets out to find Jeffrey before Dr Liam Cavanagh reveals the truth.

As Ross continues his frantic search, kidnapper Kylie makes an appearance and reiterates the danger Lewis is in. She demands Kev returns Penny, confirming he is out of prison.
Meanwhile, when Liam tastes the lemon drizzle Claudette has supplied the cafe, he immediately discovers a clue to Kev's whereabouts. After questioning the pensioner, he finds an apron-clad Kev selling cakes from a van and urges him to help save Lewis.

Unfortunately, Kev explains that 'Penny' is a diamond he stole from Kylie and says he sold it to a pawn shop. However, as he heads out to retrieve it, it's revealed that he is wearing the gem around his neck. Will Kev try to save his son, or was he lying about wanting a fresh start?
Speaking about his return to the Dales, Chris Coghill, who plays Kev, explained what his character has been up to over the last few months, and what's in store for the schemer.

When asked why he was back in the pinny, he joked: "Because I don't wanna get flour on myself!"
"As we know Kev learnt to bake in prison. Lemon drizzle! If I ever hear the word lemon drizzle again, it'll be too soon," he continued. "When we meet Kev, he's running his own mobile patisserie experience. A cake van. It's called A Slice of Kev-en. So that's what he's up to, that’s what he's doing and he might well bring it to the village."
Addressing how long he's back for, the actor remained coy, saying: "Well, that depends on certain people, whether I'm allowed to have a bakery in the village."
He added: "At some point, I'd quite like to take down the Tates."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
