Emmerdale spoilers follow from Wednesday's episode (10 June), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn't aired on ITV1 yet. This article includes discussion of sexual assault, which some readers may find upsetting.
Emmerdale's Charity Dingle is left distraught tonight as she feels let down by the police after reporting Dr Todd's awful crime.
Although Dr Todd is arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, it's not long before she's released without charge due to insufficient evidence.

Wednesday's episode focuses on Dr Todd being interviewed by the police, which halts her plans to leave the village and move into her new home.
Although initially rattled, Dr Todd comes up with a cover story by claiming that she had consensual sex with Charity and regretted it afterwards. She falsely claims that Charity's accusations of sexual assault are untrue.

Once back in the village, Dr Todd continues to use her leverage as she pays another sinister visit to Charity. She warns the Woolpack landlady to withdraw the accusation if she wants the truth about baby Leyla to stay under wraps.
Newcomer DS Reid is next to see Charity, kindly reassuring her that the investigation is still at a very early stage and the police believe her.
Sadly, fearing that there'll never be enough evidence to pursue the case and that she'd be blowing up her family for nothing, Charity reluctantly withdraws her statement.

In a phone call with the police later on, Dr Todd puts on a sly show of concern: "I fully understand – you had a job to do. I just hope that now she's retracted these lies, that she gets the help she needs."
Afterwards, Dr Todd goes ahead and says her goodbyes to Vanessa Woodfield and Manpreet Sharma, her main allies in the village.
With the story still unresolved, there's more to come from Dr Todd – but in the meantime, Charity will be left to pick up the pieces.
Spoilers for next week's episodes have revealed that Charity's mental health will come under strain, sparking fears that she could have postnatal depression. Feeling trapped in a new lie, how will Charity cope?
