Emmerdale spoilers follow for Friday's episode (18 July).

Emmerdale has revealed a heartbreaking new clue regarding Bear Wolf's mysterious exit.

Bear recently left the village following a heated argument with his son Paddy Kirk. After saving him from a vicious dog attack, Bear laid into mild-mannered Paddy, calling him a coward.

With their relationship at breaking point, devastated Paddy threw his father out of the house. Bear told his family he was going to stay with a friend in Ireland, but viewers know that his friend had actually turned him down.

In today's episode, Paddy continued to struggle with his new phobia of dogs and worried about his career as a vet. After Mandy caught him calling in sick to work, Paddy confessed his crippling fear.

"I don't wanna go to sleep in case I dream about it. I don't wanna go into work in case it happens again," he explained. "I'm a vet. Most of my patients are dogs. How am I supposed to treat them if I think I'm gonna get attacked?"

In a positive turn of events, Paddy seemed to have a breakthrough when he was approached by two barking dogs. After managing to calm his nerves, he later sat stroking Vinny's dog Chip.

When Vinny arrived, Paddy explained his strange behaviour at the surgery, revealing he had hidden from Chip. The pair discussed Bear's scathing comments, with Paddy calling himself a disappointment.

Later, Vinny enquired about Bear's whereabouts, but Paddy said he hadn't heard from his father.

"I don't need him and he doesn't need me. Anyway, he'll be having the time of his life somewhere in Ireland now," said the vet.

However, in the next scene, viewers learnt that Bear wasn't in Ireland and was instead roaming around the countryside. He was parked in an unknown location and appeared to be living in his car.

Despondent Bear drafted an apology to Paddy on his phone, but ultimately chose not to send the text. Will he return to make amends with his son?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
