Emmerdale spoilers follow for the latest episode to air on ITV1 and stream on ITVX.

Emmerdale has aired a new cliffhanger surrounding Nate Robinson's mysterious death.

Nate disappeared from the village last year, after a dramatic argument with his family. Following his departure, he only communicated through text messages and later insisted he didn't want to be contacted.

However, during this week's limo crash storyline, viewers learned that Nate was dead, as Amy Barton spotted his body at the bottom of the frozen lake.

The crash left Amy trapped in the icy water and she was rushed to hospital with hypothermia. She died from a cardiac arrest before she was able to tell her husband Matty Barton about discovering Nate's body.

In tonight's episode, Nate's wife Tracy Metcalfe struggled with the aftermath of the crash, as she recalled how she almost slipped into the lake. "All this is making me wish Nate was here. I mean, if anything had happened to me," she told Vanessa Woodfield.

Tracy then apologised to her half-sister, as Vanessa was grieving for her partner Suzy Merton, who had died in the crash. "Sorry, my head's a mess. The last thing you need is me going on like that," she added.

The pair both hugged and cried as they tried to comfort each other over the traumatic events. Later, Tracy decided to reach out to Nate but was left with his voicemail when he didn't answer the phone.

"Hi, Nate. It's me. I don't know what made me think I would get through to you this time, but maybe I was hoping that you'd sense I needed to hear your voice," she said, leaving him a message.

"Look, whatever happened with us, whatever went wrong, I just..." she cried. "There was a crash and erm Suzy, Leyla, Amy, they all died and I just, I just miss you so much."

As Tracy continued, viewers were shown the scene of the accident with Nate's body floating beneath the surface. A mysterious figure lurked in the shadows – but could they be connected to Nate's death and the suspicious texts during his disappearance?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
