Emmerdale's Matty Barton and Amy Wyatt are set to face prejudice as they make preparations for their upcoming wedding.

Amy proposed to Matty in March last year, but it wasn't a simple 'yes', as Matty was concerned that Amy had only proposed to strengthen her plans to get custody of her son Kyle.

However, Amy eventually assured him that this wasn't the case, and after she made a grand gesture and proposed again at the Woolpack, the pair got happily engaged.

The couple have recently set a date for the wedding for April, so their preparations are well underway, and this includes choosing the all-important location for the ceremony.

In scenes that will air on Thursday, March 28, Amy and Matty decide to keep things local and choose the Village Hall as their wedding venue.

However, their excitement is soon tainted by Claudette Anderson's negative reaction to finding out that Matty is trans.

Her prejudiced attitude leads her to forbid Amy and Matty from getting married in the Village Hall – as the venue is Church property.

While the couple's wedding planner Suzy Merton immediately gets to work finding a new venue for their upcoming nuptials, Matty is blindsided by the discrimination he has faced from Claudette.

Later, in the Hide, Claudette's hurtful views lead Matty to share that he just wants to experience his wedding day as himself, rather than as a trans role model for other people.

As a result, he expresses a desire to have a scaled-down wedding, and Amy processes this while trying to hide her disappointment.

In an exclusive chat with Digital Spy last year, Ash Palmisciano discussed his hopes for Matty and Amy's wedding.

"As a soap actor, you always want the soap wedding! You want the drama that comes with it as well. I just love working with Nat [Ann Jamieson], who plays Amy. She's a really good friend of mine in real life," he said.

"We'd love to film a big wedding, and I think because of other stuff that's about to happen, it might be a little bit behind! But I'd love to do it and I can't wait."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
