Emmerdale star Louise Jameson has extended her contract, it's been announced.

Jameson, who is also known for her roles in Doctor Who and EastEnders, joined the Yorkshire Dales soap as Rhona Goskirk's mother Mary last year. She will be sticking around until at least January 2024.

Reacting to her new deal at ITV, she told The Sun: "I've just signed for another year. So I'm definitely there until January 2024.

"In my head, I'm thinking maybe a couple of years after that, maybe a three- or four-year stint. But there are people here who have been here 25 years going, 'Yeah, I said that at the beginning'.

At the time of her casting as Mary, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: "We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Louise to Emmerdale.

"It's great to have such a high calibre and talented actor join our already strong team and she will be a fabulous asset to the show."

As far as Mary's future storylines go, we know that she'll begin looking for love very soon.

In next week's scenes, she confides in her friend Rodney Blackstock that she's downloaded a mobile dating app.

Excited to kickstart a romantic adventure, Mary shows off the app to Rodney, hoping to click with a special someone within the various profiles.

Will anyone catch her eye?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
