Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale aired rare scenes between Natalie J Robb (Moira Dingle) and Jonny McPherson (Liam Cavanagh), following their real-life split.

While the pair remain on good terms, Moira and Liam are rarely seen on screen together. But with Moira trying to get Cain to reconsider taking the blame for Al Chapman's death, her character turned to Liam for advice in tonight's (January 4) episode.

As fans already know, Kyle Winchester is responsible for Al's death, but Cain is insistent on protecting his son from legal trouble by taking the blame — despite pleas from Cain's long lost brother Caleb for him to tell the truth.

"I just wish he'd listen to reason, 30 years that's what he's facing," Moira said, hoping Liam would be able to talk some sense into her husband.

Later on, Liam went to visit Cain at the prison, adding that he would've done the same thing to protect his daughter Leanna if she'd faced a similar situation.

"I totally get why you want to protect Kyle, I'd feel exactly the same," he said. "You're just going to tell me it's an occupational hazard for a Dingle."

However, Cain was adamant in sticking to his plan, leaving Liam to return to Moira with the disappointing news. "His mind's made up, he's not for turning," he told a disappointed Moira, who reaffirmed she would do whatever she could to protect her family.

While the two characters rarely interact on the show, actors Robb and McPherson had briefly dated during lockdown.

Robb recently discussed filming scenes with her former boyfriend, saying it had "lovely to see him" on set.

"We were doing a few scenes together the other day and it was lovely to see him. Our characters don’t really have much to do with each other on screen, so it was nice working with him," she told The Sun last month.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
