Amy Wyatt has lied to police over Al Chapman's death in Emmerdale.

Viewers know that Amy's son Kyle shot Al to the death out of fear when he found Al and Cain Dingle squaring off over a gun earlier this year.

The stress of lying had gotten so intense that Kyle ran away earlier this week, but his safe recovery spurred another dangerous series of events that could have consequences for his family.

Friday's episode saw Moira and Amy worrying about another problem, as they realised Caleb must know the truth about Al's death. Mack promised he'd sort the situation so Caleb wouldn't interfere.

Mack confronted Caleb at the pub to warn him, telling him he'd make Caleb pay if he "so much as breathed those ideas to anyone".

"Just stay away," Mack demanded.

Caleb had no intention of staying away — in fact, he approached Kyle to reveal he is his uncle and encouraged the boy to tell the police whatever he knows about Cain.

The next time viewers saw Kyle, he'd gone to police to confess and brought "evidence". A police officer eventually showed up at the farm to reveal Kyle's evidence was a jumper stained with blood.

The police ultimately decided to release Kyle under caution, though Amy had to improvise during the questioning by claiming she'd only heard the truth about the shooting a day earlier.

Once he was released on bail, Amy sent Kyle off to the car as she regrouped with Moira outside the police station. However, Moira was alarmed to hear of this new wrinkle in the story.

"I panicked. I made out like we didn't know, like yesterday was the first day we heard him admit it," Amy confessed.

Moira sighed as she admitted: "Oh brilliant. Now [Kyle] is hearing us lie to the police."

When Moira suggested they just set the record straight now and tell the police the truth, Amy refused because the lie could put both her and Moira behind bars when Kyle needs them.

Moira and Amy were stunned to find out from Kyle that he expected Cain to be released after speaking with Caleb.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
