Former Emmerdale star Adam Thomas has revealed that show bosses had asked him to reprise his role as Adam Barton on the soap.

Speaking to OK! Magazine, the actor said that bosses had explored the possibility of bringing both him and Danny Miller back for a guest stint during the show's 50th anniversary, but unfortunately he was busy filming for his Waterloo Road return.

"They asked me and Danny Miller to go back for the 50th anniversary but unfortunately I was busy doing this [Waterloo Road] and we couldn’t make it work," he said, adding that he would love to return to the 'Dales one day.

Miller did end up reprising his role as Aaron Dingle for a guest stint.

Thomas played Adam Barton on the soap until 2018, with his storylines including Adam's close relationship with Aaron, suffering a breakdown following the death of his father and taking the blame for the death of Emma Barton, who was killed by his mother Moira Dingle.

Outside of Emmerdale, the actor is also known for his role as Donte Charles on Waterloo Road, with the actor returning to the role as part of the show's revamp alongside his real-life son Teddy Thomas and niece Scarlett Thomas.

Speaking about his return to Waterloo Road, Thomas told OK! that he was "flabbergasted" when he received the call to return.

"There’s a lot that’s gone on since Donte was in school," he said.

"I was a kid when I was in the show. So to be coming back as an adult and working with kids that were my age back then, when I was first doing the job, is just so surreal."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
