It seems that Emmerdale fans are in for another tense episode, after a writer let slip that another death is on the horizon.

After the horrific storm claimed several lives, the ITV soap is set to lose another fan-favourite character, scriptwriter Sharon Marshall revealed on This Morning.

Monday night’s episode saw Al Chapman and Cain Dingle’s feud come to a nasty conclusion, as the duo fought over a loaded shotgun. In the scramble for the weapon, a shot was fired… but it’s unclear if it hit anyone.

Appearing on the ITV morning show, Marshall dropped the bombshell to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that someone would be leaving the show, this evening.

Marshall revealed: "That gun has fired and somebody doesn't have too much more dialogue to learn, let's put it that way. They're just out, yeah. That's tonight."

"Let's just say that it's the start of a huge new storyline. That is probably all I am allowed to say on it. It's a goody."

Some viewers were convinced that innocent bystander Kerry Wyatt, who was lurking near the fight, would be victim to the rogue fired shot.

It seems that Cain or Al might be saying their final farewell in tonight’s episode, which will see the aftermath of their catastrophic fallout.

Ahead of this episode, Cain actor Jeff Hordley has spoken out about the impact this particular conflict will have on the rest of the characters.

"From here, there are some really good stories. When you do stories like this, you have got to have the ripple effect afterwards," he said on Loose Women. "This causes certain ripples throughout for various characters within the village. Whether that is me, I can't tell you."

Asked if the big drama ever left him worried he could be dropped from the show, he said: "I'm worried every year. We are only on a year's contract at a time so everybody is nervous."

Elsewhere, Michael Wildman has been tipped to leave his role as Al, having played the character for three years.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV, and streams on the ITV Hub.
