Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale actor Kevin Mathurin has teased his character's future as the village's vicar following a new storyline with his long-lost daughter.

Lately, Charles Anderson has found himself in a precarious position as he attempts to build a relationship with Naomi.

It has been a tumultuous few months of the duo going back and forth – sometimes with violent misunderstandings getting in the way. But Naomi has been refusing to have anything to do with him, following his decision not to reach out to her when he had learned about her existence last year.

"She may be his daughter, but he doesn't really know her. It's going to get messy!"

Fortunately, it seems however rough things may get for Charles, he won't be walking away from his duty to the Church for the foreseeable future.

"There have been times when he's wanted to bring out the 'old Charles'. But I wouldn't want him to get rid of the dog collar, as he loves his job helping people. Vicars don't get an easy ride, not in this village anyway!"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
