Emmerdale ties up loose end for in Jai and Laurel split

A loose end from Laurel Thomas and Jai Sharma's recent split has been tied up in Emmerdale.

Earlier in the summer, the troubled couple finally decided to call it quits when drugs were found in the same chair where Jai was sitting in Take a Vow.

Jai has struggled for years to stay sober, so he was deeply hurt when Laurel doubted his denials that the drugs weren't his. Jai felt that Kim Tate planted the drugs as retaliation for the HOP strike, but he wasn't correct.

Nonetheless, the two decided to go their separate ways and have been frosty to one another ever since. This plot strand was revisited last week when Suzy Merton publicly took the blame for the drugs.

In Wednesday's episode (July 20), Laurel was shocked to hear from Matty that Suzy was the one to blame for the drugs fiasco (or so they both believed).

"Final nail in the coffin for you two, wasn't it?" Matty pointed out.

Laurel then confronted Jai, asking why he didn't come to her to clear his name once Suzy publicly took the blame last week.

When Laurel made it clear that she believes Jai was telling the truth, he encouraged her not to feel guilty over her initial scepticism.

"In the end, it was never really about the drugs, was it? It was about trust," Jai pointed out. "I broke that long before Suzy turned up. Time to move on."

The two parted ways, perhaps with things left unsaid. But there is a wrinkle to this story that hasn't yet been revealed on-screen.

Suzy took responsibility for dropping the cocaine in Take a Vow, but she was only covering for Leyla. Thus far, Leyla has managed to keep her addiction secret, but how much longer will she be able to stay ahead of her own lies?
