Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale will tie up a loose end from Jai Sharma and Laurel Thomas's split storyline next week.

Jai and Laurel went their separate ways in April after the discovery of drugs at the Take A Vow office drove them apart.

At the time, village newcomer Suzy Merton was regularly supplying Leyla Cavanagh with cocaine.

As the drugs were found next to Jai's missing wallet, Laurel wrongly assumed that he had relapsed again and refused to believe his protestations of innocence.

In next week's episodes, Matty Barton remains angry now that the truth over Suzy's connection to his late sister Holly has been exposed.

Matty blames Suzy for her inadvertent role in Holly's death and confides in Laurel about how he's feeling.

Laurel tries to talk Matty down, but he leaves her wrong-footed by revealing that the drugs found at Take A Vow a few months ago belonged to Suzy.

Laurel is shocked to realise that she broke up with Jai based on a lie, but as she's now pursuing a new love interest, is it too late for a reunion?

Earlier this year, Chris Bisson – who plays Jai – predicted that there would be no way back for his character and Laurel.

Chris said at the time: "I think Jai feels disappointed in Laurel because she has her own problems with being a recovering alcoholic. I don't know if it's because Laurel wasn't 100% behind getting back together in the first place, but it seems quite harsh that she's not more understanding. I think he sees a different side to her.

"There have been times when Laurel's halo has slipped slightly. She hasn't been as kind or as understanding as usual. There have been a couple of scenes where Laurel's not very nice to Jai at all.

"I can't see Jai getting back together with Laurel, given that he pled his innocence and he was absolutely adamant but she wouldn't believe him. I don't see how they get back from there."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
