Emmerdale's Amy Wyatt and Matty Barton are currently having a bit of a romance blossom, and while it is very early days, Amy actress Natalie Ann Jamieson wants it to go the distance.

Scenes with the pair will be front and centre next week, and ahead of those scenes airing, Natalie has explained what kind of mindset her character is in when it comes to men.

"I don't think Amy has had much (luck with men) in her life, people who are just really good souls and they are not out for something of their own," she said. "Especially with partners, she's had a bit of a bad run in that sense.

"I think when she starts to see that Matty is a genuine and nice guy, she's like, 'Do you know what? I'm ready to have somebody who is genuinely good as a partner.' She thinks Matty is that person... I'd love to see Amy and Matty get together, that'd be really cute."

Of course, it's never that simple in soapland, and Tracy Metcalfe will be out to sabotage things for Amy next week, because she still hasn't forgiven Amy for the role she played in Tracy's dad Frank Clayton's death last year.

Few people know about what happened, but if it were to become public knowledge it could turn a lot of people against Amy.

Still, Natalie thinks that Matty would understand, because he and his family have been through a fair bit themselves.

"It's always an interesting thing with Emmerdale," she explained. "You look at the different characters and think, 'What would they say if they found out?' and then you think about what they are already hiding for themselves or other people.

"Then you start to think, 'Wow! They couldn't really take the moral high ground, could they?' with everything Moira's done. (Matty) might be the perfect person to find out, but you never know how people will react."

Emmerdale currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm on ITV.
