Emmerdale returned to ITV tonight (March 10) with the next chapter in Vanessa Woodfield's bowel cancer storyline.
In tearful scenes, she and partner Charity Dingle decided to finally tell the children (Charity's son Noah and her granddaughter Sarah) about her recent diagnosis.
But this wasn't without some awkward conversations between themselves and Vanessa's sister Tracy Metcalfe.

Earlier on in the episode, a competitiveness became apparent between Charity and Tracy over who's being the most helpful in support of Vanessa.
Tracy first suggested it was time to inform the kids about Vanessa's situation, but Charity wasn't comfortable being told what to do.

On several occasions Vanessa had to step in and calm the pair down, with the atmosphere becoming overheated for silly reasons.

Following the news of Vanessa's poor health, Noah and Sarah seemed to take it really well.
However, their response altered towards the end of the episode, as Charity overheard them talking about whether Vanessa might die.
Elsewhere on the soap, Will Taylor landed himself in even more hot water with boss Cain Dingle, as DI Malone continued to treat the garage with a lack of respect.
With a risky plan to fight back against Malone looming, keep an eye on where this storyline goes.
Emmerdale currently airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
