Emmerdale actor Ash Palmisciano has opened up about how his character Matty Barton's is going to be affected by his mother Moira and her husband Cain Dingle upcoming break-up drama.
In scenes that are set to air on Friday 14 February, Cain (Jeff Hordley) – unable to get over Moira (Natalie J Robb) sleeping with Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) – will urge her to sign divorce papers when she returns to Butlers Farm after a short stay with Nana Barton.
"Matty has tried to keep them at a distance," Palmisciano explained, noting the barman's strained relationship with his stepdad. "But he knows that his mum loves Cain more than anything and actually worries about how she'll deal with all this.
"Potentially, this could be the worst thing that’s ever happened to her."
The 30-year-old went on to say that, despite all the "fights and rows" that Matty and Cain have had in the past, the former starts to realise how much he "needs a strong male in his life" when the reality of Cain not being around anymore sets in.
"I think, deep down, Matty would love a proper stepdad to guide him, even if he is Cain Dingle! He loves how happy he makes Moira and knows deep down they are soul mates.

"Matty was actually coming around to Cain a lot, and was really hurt when the affair with Nate came out. Maybe one day Cain and Matty will have a friendship. They certainly both love Moira and know exactly what she can be like.
"It would be nice for them to bond over that."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
