Matty Barton's toxic masculinity storyline is set to take a darker turn on next week's Emmerdale as he shocks Cain Dingle.
Matty is currently being influenced by the laddish behaviour of newcomers Jono and Ste, as he is desperate to impress them despite the fact they are taking advantage of him.
A new twist in the storyline will now see Cain left surprised by Matty's aggression after the two have an argument.
Matty became involved with Jono and Ste after playing against them in a football match, and they later took advantage of him by getting him to buy drinks in the pub.
Billy Fletcher and Ellis Chapman tried to get through to Matty to tell him he is being taken as a fool, though this only made him more determined for approval.
"Matty feels that in order for him to be respected by the other lads, for him to be a 'proper man', he has to be like this – he has to be like one of those guys," Ash Palmisciano, who plays Matty, recently said.

"And he goes on a bit of a mission. It taps into the whole toxic masculinity thing.
"He's going though it a little bit late in life – something that most lads go through at about 12 or 13 – trying to figure out how to act with the lads. It's definitely a side to him that we haven't seen before."
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
