EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw has revealed which character he would love to see return to the soap.

Ever since the BBC soap began, it's been famed for its explosive Christmas storylines and shocking, sometimes unbelievable, character returns. From Peggy Mitchell's revolving stints on the show to Dirty Den returning from the dead, EastEnders is no stranger to a big reveal.

And executive producer Clenshaw has now shared which iconic character he would like to see back in The Square next.

"Grant Mitchell, for more brotherly drama with Phil!" he admitted during an interview with TV Times.

Grant, played by Ross Kemp, last appeared on EastEnders in 2016 when he returned to Walford to say a final goodbye to his late mum Peggy.

He returned to the show once more in the same year after Sharon Watts tried to enlist his help find his nephew Ben Mitchell when he went missing.

Grant reconciled with Phil over Ben's return, writing off his debt to him in the process. But before he left for Portugal once again, he learned that Mark Fowler, who had been getting close to Grant's daughter Courtney Mitchell, was also his son.

This year has already seen a bombshell return in the former of Cindy Beale, alongside Ian Beale, played by Michelle Collins and Adam Woodyatt respectively.

Known as Rose Knight to the Knight family, Cindy had married George Knight and welcomed daughters Gina and Anna while in witness protection.

After unwittingly causing Ian's heart attack when he wanted to return to Walford, Cindy and Ian both arrived back on the Square much to the shock of the other residents — especially George, Gina, and Anna.

And she certainly brought her trademark drama with her after fighting furiously with Kathy Beale, being at loggerheads with George, reuniting with Gina and Anna for the first time in nine years, and holding a grudge against Bobby Beale whom she blames for Lucy Beale's death.
