EastEnders star Shane Richie has opened up on his character Alfie Moon's upcoming storyline, hinting there's more to come in his rivalry with Phil Mitchell.

Things aren't going too well for Alfie, who finds himself held at gunpoint by a robber after a prank on Phil spirals completely out of control.

Alfie's luck goes from bad to worse when the thief overhears a phone call revealing Alfie's sons discovering large amounts of cash in Phil's safe – leading Alfie to be caught in a dangerous dilemma.

Speaking about Alfie's newfound rivalry with Phil, Richie revealed that he doesn't think his character is scared of Phil despite his reputation in Walford.

He said: "I don't think he's that scared of Phil, if he had been, he wouldn't have run off with Phil's money in the first place."

"But, I think he fears for Kat and what may or may not happen in the future.

"I think Alfie fears more for Kat's allegiance with Phil because Alfie knows, like most people in the Square know, Phil's background and his association with the dark side of Walford.

"That's something Alfie doesn't have a hand in, so he fears for Kat and the boys."

Richie also teased that fans can expect to see more drama in his upcoming Christmas storyline, which will see Alfie attempt to win Kat back from Phil.

"I've got some great stuff coming up that we're filming next week," he said, adding that he's enjoying Alfie and Phil's current dynamic, as the two have rarely crossed paths previously. "Alfie and Phil are two characters that are just polar opposites."

He added: "Alfie, for the life of him, cannot see a future without Kat and certainly can't see a future for Phil and Kat.

"So, he's constantly astonished and flabbergasted that Kat's even got feelings for Phil."
