Coronation Street star Farrel Hegarty had the most hilarious response to an article claiming she was expecting her first child.

Hegarty, who plays villainous Lou Michaelis on Corrie, took to Instagram to share her reaction to the rumours.

"I am dying," she says in the clip, showing the article in question in the background.

Hegarty proceeded to read the article out loud, reciting: "Huge congrats to Farrel Hegarty (also known as Lou Michaelis) who recently met up with his partner in Australia… and now they've shared the most heartwarming update: they're going to have their first baby! Such a lovely new beginning beyond the soap opera world."

"That's really brightened my day up," Hegarty then said with tears in her eyes, also reading some comments from people who were confused as to why she was misgendered.

"What a beautiful article. Well written. Lots of research put into it. Better start thinking of some baby names!" she added.

The soap star finished off her post with a video of herself and her partner Tricia Stone cradling her friend Nick, who pretends to be a baby and even calls Hegarty "mama".

Hegarty joined Corrie earlier this year as Lou alongside Joe Layton, who plays her onscreen husband Mick Michaelis. The pair had a rocky start on the street, with things going awry when Mick killed Craig Tinker and landed behind bars.

Lou was left alone having to provide for her family amid her rift with her eldest son Brody (Ryan Mulvey) after the revelation that Kit is his biological dad.

Meanwhile, Lou has something to do with Gary Windass's disappearance as she's in possession of his phone, while Maria is none the wiser about her involvement.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
