Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Lou Michaelis has been lying to Maria Connor about Gary Windass' disappearance.

In tonight's episode, Maria was on edge as she hadn't heard from Gary since he left to stay with his mother. The couple had hit a rough patch amid Lou's scheming, though her real intentions are still unclear.

As Liam was celebrating his 16th birthday and Gary still hadn't come back home or even called, Maria grew increasingly uneasy.

"Something is going on," Liam said, as Maria gave him a worried look.

At dinner later that night, Maria was still holding out hope that Gary would show up. She had reached out to his sister Faye, but she only replied with a puzzled face emoji.

As Maria, Liam and the rest of their party gave up and ordered without Gary, he was having a medical emergency and needed surgery.

The doctors decided to contact Gary's next of kin given the situation, but it wasn't Maria they reached out to.

Later on, Maria received a phone call from Gary's mum Anna.

She confirmed her son intended to go back home and sort things out with Maria. After confiding in Sarah Platt, a distraught Maria decided to call the police, fearing something must've happened to Gary.

In the final scenes, Lou received a call and acted suspicious, leaving Bernie Winter's shop to continue the conversation "somewhere private".

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
