Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street’s Dee-Dee Bailey is set to betray her brother James in an upcoming clash about baby Laila.

Earlier this year, Dee-Dee gave birth to a baby girl in an emotional issue-based storyline that saw the ITV soap shine a light on racial injustice in maternity care.

During the traumatic birth, Dee-Dee suffered severe complications and had to undergo an emergency hysterectomy, where she was later given the news that she could no longer have children.

Dee-Dee then faced the tough decision of whether to give Laila away to her brother James. While James did end up taking baby Laila away to live in the States, he made a shocking return to Weatherfield last month.

Since then, the pair have clashed over Laila's caregiving duties and it looks as though the siblings are set to continue their feud in upcoming scenes.

In scenes set to air next week, Dee-Dee tells James and Ed she’s glad to have the support of her church, though James swiftly makes it clear that Laila’s upbringing will be non-religious.

Dee-Dee retaliates by meeting up with Billy, telling him that she’d like him to baptise Laila, but Billy tells her that she needs James’s permission first.

Dee-Dee assures James that she accepts his decision not to have Laila christened. However, when she asks Alya to be Laila’s godmother, Alya realises she’s going ahead with the clandestine christening.

Previously speaking about Dee-Dee's storyline, actor Channique Sterling-Brown said: "I was nervous about it – it's a big story to tell, it's a complicated story to tell. For me, I've never given birth, so a big thing for me was honouring mothers and doing that well.

"Also honouring our NHS, they are understaffed, overstretched, and that's obviously a factor. But I think also telling this story that does directly affect the Black community was important as well, and it's been great to see people engage in conversations."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
