Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has confirmed details of Craig Tinker's exit storyline, with a new promo revealing a shocking development.

It was announced in January that Colson Smith would exit the ITV soap after 14 years in the role of Craig, with the policeman set to depart Weatherfield after a decision was made by producers last year.

Months down the line, details of the character's exit have been teased in a brand new promotional video, which shows a bloodied and battered Craig lying unconscious on the cobbled streets following a vicious attack.

"If we knew today was our last day on earth, what would we do differently?" asks DS Lisa Swain in a voiceover, teasing that Craig's exit could potentially be a grislier departure than originally anticipated.

"I can’t wait for people to see Craig's final scenes," said Smith. "It is exactly the exit I wanted for him and we are all really proud of what we filmed in those final weeks."

"It was actually great fun. I was walking around covered in fake blood for days and I was chuffed that I got to work with so many brilliant people in this final storyline," added the star, who has previously appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.

Craig's exit comes amid a special week of episodes on the soap– set to begin on 19 May – as the policeman and his colleague Kit Green become the focus of attention. Newcomer Mick Michaelis will also play a part as the full nature of his past with Kit is revealed.

Craig's week begins as he shadows Kit, though the exciting opportunity turns to tragedy as a series of "climactic events" leaves Craig's life hanging in the balance. As Lisa reminds all in the teaser, "there isn't always more time"...

Upon the announcement of his exit back in January, Smith shared that he had "loved every single second" of his time on Corrie across his 14-year stint, adding that he felt "incredibly lucky" to have spent such a long time on the soap.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
