Coronation Street's Shona Platt confides in Roy Cropper next week as she reflects on a devastating mistake.

Show bosses are lining up a downward spiral for Shona after recent events involving her jailed son Clayton Hibbs.

Shona was shocked when she learned that Clayton had attempted to take his own life in prison.

She wondered how Clayton's mental health had deteriorated so much without her knowing, unaware that her husband David had been secretly blocking visiting orders from Clayton.

Next week, David confides in his stepson Max Turner about how he deleted the emails from the prison and even went to visit Clayton to warn him off.

David insists that Shona must never find out, but Max's resolve to keep the secret is severely tested when he spots Shona attacking the prison governor in her desperate search for answers.

For now, Corrie bosses aren't giving away whether Shona finds out the truth or not, but there's certainly a sudden change in her behaviour at the end of next week.

Shona orders local cabbie Steve McDonald to drive her into town, desperate for time away from her family.

David is baffled when Shona fails to return home all night and he frantically searches for her the next morning.

Once Shona reappears, she turns to Roy for some moral support and admits that she has done something she deeply regrets.

What did Shona get up to during her mysterious night away?

Earlier this week, Corrie's new producer Kate Brooks named Shona as one to watch in this year's Christmas episodes as secrets explode for the Platts.

Brooks told Digital Spy and other press: "The Platts are at the heart of Christmas. You've got David and Shona – and David has made massive mistakes in hiding visiting orders from Clayton.

"This goes on to have massive consequences and Shona hits that self-destruct button in the build-up to Christmas and makes some really terrible judgement calls."

She added: "What is important for me about David and Shona is that they can both really mess up, but that love that they have is so strong.

"But can they overcome that? I don't know. But all those secrets come to the forefront on Christmas Day."
