Coronation Street's new producer Kate Brooks has warned that the tables will turn on David Platt in the build-up to Christmas.

David is currently deceiving his wife Shona after trying to block her access to her jailed son Clayton Hibbs.

Earlier this month, David deleted visiting orders that Clayton had sent to Shona as he didn't want the villain to mess up their lives again.

David visited Clayton in prison to warn him off, but he realised that he may have made a terrible mistake when a desperate Clayton tried to take his own life and Shona wanted answers over how things had got to this point.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a recent press event, Brooks hinted that Shona is one to watch as the story takes further twists and turns in the coming weeks.

Brooks said: "The Platts are at the heart of Christmas. You've got David and Shona – and David has made massive mistakes in hiding visiting orders from Clayton.

"This goes on to have massive consequences and Shona hits that self-destruct button in the build-up to Christmas and makes some really terrible judgement calls."

This means that Shona could be among the characters keeping secrets as the Platts take centre stage on Christmas Day, in contrast to the current dynamic where David is the one who's worrying about being caught out.

As family matriarch Gail plans to leave the Street for good, lies and deception among her wider family threaten to cause chaos on the day.

Brooks added: "What is important for me about David and Shona is that they can both really mess up, but that love that they have is so strong.

"But can they overcome that? I don't know. But all those secrets come to the forefront on Christmas Day."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
