Coronation Street's Stephen to be caught out by Carla after coup plan

Coronation Street killer Stephen Reid makes a big mistake next week as he tries to block Carla Barlow from returning to work.

Stephen was recently asked to help look after Underworld, as Carla decided to take a step back from the business amid concerns over her mental health.

The villain has been secretly spiking Carla's drinks with LSD to undermine confidence in her ability to run the factory, so he was delighted when his evil plan paid off.

However, in upcoming episodes, Stephen reacts badly to the news that his stint at the top could be short-lived.

When Stephen learns that Carla wants to return to work, he gathers the shareholders on the workforce and hopes to oppose her plans.

Stephen argues that Carla isn't fit to take the reins back just yet, so he suggests holding a vote of no confidence.

Faye Windass stays loyal to Carla, secretly contacting her to let her know what Stephen is up to.

Shortly afterwards, Stephen suffers a setback when Dick Haversham arrives at Underworld and belittles him for being incompetent.

Carla then summons Stephen into her office and sternly rebukes him for trying to stage a coup to oust her from the business.

Todd Boyce, who plays Stephen, recently revealed: "[Stephen] knows there are the 50 centres with shares in the company and he just needs to mobilise them and make them think she is not capable of doing the job.

"It's pretty ingenious and she has annoyed him so much that he doesn't actually care what it is going to do to her.

"It is a relatively short-term plan to start with just to sow the seed of doubt with everyone. He plans to do it over a period of time so it looks like she is having real problems."
