Coronation Street hints at real killer in Stu Carpenter story

Coronation Street presents a new suspect in Stu Carpenter's historic murder case next week.

Stu once served a prison sentence for the murder of a woman called Charlie, but he insists that a corrupt police detective coerced him into making a false confession.

In next week's episodes, Alya Nazir decides that Stu's ex-wife Lucy Woodrow could have been the real killer.

As show newcomer Dee-Dee Bailey looks over the case, she tells Alya that there was no trace of Stu's DNA on Charlie's bag.

Although this is positive news, Dee-Dee also warns that it will be expensive to get the evidence re-tested and clear Stu's name.

Shortly afterwards, Alya confronts Lucy and accuses her of withholding vital information which could prove Stu's innocence.

Alya vows to prove her theory and hopes to find the cash to fund the DNA test. The only problem is that Stu is growing tired of the situation and he insists that it's now best to leave the past in the past.

Stu hopes that he'll be able to focus on connecting with his daughter Bridget and granddaughter Eliza if he stops obsessing over the murder case.

When Dee-Dee announces that she has managed to secure funding for the DNA test, Alya keeps quiet about Stu's request and insists on going ahead as planned.

Before long, Alya shows her cunning side by inviting Lucy and Bridget to stay for tea at the Nazir house.

Alya then presents Dee-Dee with a mug that Lucy drank from earlier, asking for it to be tested for DNA so they can figure out if she really killed Charlie.
