Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street star Mikey North has opened up about Gary Windass's fears as Kelly Neelan gets increasingly suspicious about his nature.

In upcoming scenes, Kelly will be the victim of a kidnapping as she's held captive by Kieron and Ross, former loan shark clients of her late father Rick – whom Gary killed, with Kelly currently unaware.

Gary manages to track her down as he brings around half the ransom money, before forcing his way into Kelly's cell.

"Gary has always got a plan, he knows exactly what's going on and manages to track down where Kelly is being kept," Mikey told Digital Spy and other media.

"He forces way into the cellar, he breaks in, tries to untie her and get her to safety but Kieron walks in and knocks Gary unconscious with a crowbar, but Gary maybe not as unconscious as he appears and all hell breaks loose."

He added: "It's like mirroring what happened with Rick, the bad guy has got his family or is about to get his family – it was Sarah and Bethany when he killed Rick, this time it's Kelly. The rest of his family have been threatened, there are some similarities."

The star also admitted that Gary "would [kill] again in the same circumstances, he didn't have much choice, he had to save his family".

Speaking about Kelly's demand for answers after seeing what Gary is capable of, Mikey revealed that it "scares" his character, noting: "It is bringing her closer to the truth, that increases the jeopardy, when it all comes out it will make for interesting viewing."

He also feels guilt for killing her father, saying: "He hates lying to her, all of this is done under false pretences. The reason she is living with them is because of guilt and he's trying to cover things up, absolutely."

As for filming the stunt scenes, Mikey called them "brilliant", saying: "I've been involved in lots of fight scenes over the years, but this was the best to film.

"It was like being in The Matrix, it was like a two-minute scene – I'm not sure how much will make the final cut. But it was a really long fight sequence which was nice to do. I enjoy that. Hopefully they'll keep in all of it – but I'll believe it when I see it.

"We did it all ourselves. We had our fight director there. It was like doing a dance but you're fighting, it's the longest one I've been allowed to do while I've been there and I've probably done about 6000 fight scenes in my 15 years. But this was the best.

"I think I'm just a frustrated stunt man when it all comes down to it. It's the most enjoyable part of the job for me. I love getting hit by cars and taking the odd punch. I always look forward to doing it."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
