Coronation Street star Sally Carman has described the idea of having a romance plot with her real-life fiancé Joe Duttine as "awful".

Social distancing restrictions are preventing actors from filming intimate scenes as normal, but this wouldn't be a problem if they were living in the same household.

When asked during a recent Zoom call with Digital Spy and other media whether she would be interested in sharing such scenes with Joe (Tim Metcalfe), Sally – who plays Abi Franklin – shared that the idea doesn't interest her.

"Well, that would just be awful on every level, no!" she said. "Although I've said that I'd like to get in the middle of any couple in the show, I'd hate to get in the middle of Tim and Sal. They work brilliantly.

"Also, we don't want to work together! We see enough of each other at home!"

Sally also discussed returning to the set, explaining that despite things being "a bit different", she hasn't had any real problems with filming.

"I have to say, I think Corrie have been brilliant," she said. "They have put absolutely everything in place, as much as they can. I really admire what they've done and how they have done it. They have done everything to make us feel we can do our job as naturally as we can.

"Of course it's a bit different and a bit more difficult, but personally I'm finding it okay. I'm not finding it massively difficult, I'm really not. It's the best we could have hoped for, definitely."

Sally's thoughts on romance scenes with her real-life fiancé are echoed by Joe himself. Earlier in the summer, Joe was asked the same question and he gave a similar response.

"That's the last thing me and Sally want," he said at the time. "It would be a disaster.

"We would make each other laugh all the time, we wouldn't be able to concentrate – and it'd be a little too close to home, wouldn't it?"

Coronation Street currently airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm on ITV.
