Coronation Street has sparked over 350 complaints following its disturbing chicken death episode.
Viewers were left horrified last week when Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) killed his wife Yasmeen Nazir's (Shelley King) beloved pet chicken before feeding it to her as part of an ongoing coercive control storyline.
The distressing scenes have actually led to a number of complaints from viewers, with broadcasting regulator Ofcom confirming that 359 complaints have been made about the episode.
An assessment is currently underway.
"We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate," an Ofcom spokesperson told Digital Spy.

The complaints follow Geoff actor Ian Bartholomew previously discussing how "uncomfortable" he feels portraying the villainous character.
"He's now becoming not just manipulative but mean and nasty and intentionally so," Ian told The Mirror.
"Killing her chicken is a turning point, because he starts to enjoy his cruelty in some twisted, perverse way."
He added: "I’m finding it hard and there are uncomfortable scenes, such as when he pushed his phone into Yasmeen’s face to film her.
"I have to put Geoff in a box and open it when I need it."
With Yasmeen's situation set to worsen over the coming weeks, the Coronation Street team have also explained their slow approach to the storyline.
