Coronation Street has confirmed that Maria Connor and Gary Windass will get engaged.
The couple announce the news to their friends and neighbours next week, trying their best to forget about a chaotic build-up to their big decision.

Coronation Street fans will see Gary plan his proposal in this week's episodes, but his secretive behaviour arouses suspicion from Maria (Samia Longchambon).

Maria then feels terrible when it emerges that Gary was trying to organise the perfect proposal and she was wrong to not trust him.

Mikey North, who plays Gary, recently warned that his character would spiral out of control again if he found out about Maria's cheating.
"I do think that Gary is really determined to make this his fresh start, put the past behind him and move on with Maria," Mikey explained.
"I think Gary has seen the error of his ways, but if he were to find out about Maria and Ali, I think that could send him off the rails again.
"There's only one way that Gary reacts and that's with his fists. Should he find out about it, Gary and Ali will definitely come to blows."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
