Coronation Street favourite Alexandra Mardell, who plays Emma Brooker, has revealed some big news about her future on the cobbles – and it's good news.
In an interview with the Daily Star, Alexandra confirmed that she will be sticking around as Steve McDonald's daughter Emma and has recently "signed a new contract" with the soap.
Reflecting on her time in Weatherfield, Alexandra said that although she's been playing Emma for a year and a half "it's just flown by".
"I do still feel like a relative newbie," she added. "You've got people that have been in the show for decades, and I think you need to clock up at least five years before you feel any different.
"I've just signed a new contract and I'm more than happy to stay for as long as they'll have me."
Alexandra didn't let on how long her new contract runs for, but the actress did say that she would "love" to be a part of the soap's 60th anniversary next year.

Unsurprisingly, Steve McDonald's awkward bombshell at her father's funeral is expected to play out in suitably dramatic fashion, although Alexandra did reassure fans that "Emma isn't one to hold a grudge".
"No-one will ever replace her dad, but her mum lives in Australia and she doesn't have any other family on the Street so it would be a waste to let that relationship go," the actress explained.
"She bonds with Liz quite quickly, she's part of the family, they're taking her in. She's a McDonald now. There's a lot coming up."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
