Coronation Street star Alexandra Mardell has revealed that she'd love to see Fiona Middleton make a more permanent return to the cobbles.
Angela Griffin will be reprising the role of Fiona for a brief cameo next week after 21 years away from the role, but she'll only be seen via an online video call.
Fiona's reappearance follows the big twist that she's the mother of Alexandra's character Emma Brooker. When Emma discovers that Steve McDonald is her biological father, she contacts Fiona for an explanation.

Speaking about the surprising storyline, Alexandra explained: "They sprung it on me quite recently, but I'm absolutely chuffed that it's happening and to get stuck in with the McDonalds and of course Angela.
"She's been an idol of mine all my life and someone I've always looked up to.

"I was about five years old when Steve and Fiona were an item. I've seen clips now of them together, but I was too young at the time when it was all happening.
"Fiona was a brilliant character and obviously she lived above the salon in the flat and worked in the salon, which is what Emma is doing, so that's lovely."

Asked whether Fiona could ever return to the show properly, Alexandra replied: "I'd love to be able to work with Angela for as long as possible.
"Even before this storyline came it was always something I'd wanted to do, so I'm so glad that it's been a possibility."
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
