Clocking up more than 2,700 episodes on the show, Coronation Street actress Sue Nicholls has now reached her 40-year milestone.

To celebrate her loyalty to the Weatherfield cobbles, Corrie's official YouTube channel has uploaded a video showing Sue's debut as Audrey Roberts.

"We have a very special anniversary today! 40 years since Audrey Roberts (played by the truly wonderful Sue Nicholls) first graced the cobbles," the description reads.

"As part of these celebrations, let's take a look back at Audrey's (not exactly welcome to all) first appearance."

In the scene – which dates all the way back to 1979 – Audrey gatecrashes her daughter Gail's celebrations after just receiving a marriage proposal from future husband Brian.

It's a brilliant introduction to Sue's character, who immediately peppers the scene with some dry humour and memorable lines.

Elsewhere, Sue was found generously helping out a member of the public earlier this year.

Sainsbury's customer Tariq Malik recalled an encounter with the soap star at his local store, when she kindly lent him £1 to use for a trolley. What a gem.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
