Warner Bros has just dropped a teaser trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal's new film The Bride. Starring Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, The Bride is described as a "bold, iconoclastic take on one of the world’s most compelling stories".

Set in the 1930s and serving as a reimagining of the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, the film follows Bale as Frankenstein's monster as he travels to Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening) to create a companion for him.

Per the synopsis: "The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!"

Did we also mention it's a musical?

If the trailer is anything to go by, The Bride looks like it will be a cross between Chicago and Bonnie and Clyde with a classic monster movie twist.

Per the trailer, Buckley's Bride is seen falling down a flight of stairs before she is heard asking in a voiceover: "Was I just the same before the accident?"

As a clip plays in which the Bride's body is removed from her grave and taken to a lab where she jolts back to life, Bale's Monster replies: "There wasn’t any accident. Everything we did, we did it on purpose. There is nothing left to do now but live."

The Bride and the Monster then hit the road, and the trailer shows a newspaper that reads: 'Killer monsters wanted'.

Alongside Bale, Buckley and Bening, the upcoming film stars Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, former Dancing with the Stars pro Julianne Hough and Gyllenhaal's brother Jake.

Along with directing, Gyllenhaal also serves as writer and producer on The Bride, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on March 6, 2026 after previously being set for release this October.

But monster fans needn't worry as Guillermo del Toro’s version of Frankenstein, starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi will hit Netflix globally on 7 November.

The Bride is released in cinemas on March 6, 2026.
