It's not good news for John Travolta, as his new movie has been slapped with a dreadful 0% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The mob movie Gotti, about the late mobster John Gotti, hasn't had a single positive review from 17 different critics (at the time of writing), making it the actor's third film to have the dubious honour after Saturday Night Fever sequel Staying Alive and Look Who's Talking Now (surprisingly not Battlefield Earth though).

Some of the highlights in the reviews including calling Travolta's performance as "chewing on the scenery like it was a meatball hero" and a "stereotypical goombah" (via The New York Daily News), and pointing out that there were 44 (!) credited producers and not one pointed out the flaws.

Most of the reviews focus on the plot, with critics saying the film felt like a messy, uneven collection of scenes rather than a cohesive film.

Still, 82 percent of the audience who've seen the film have liked it – again, we stress, at the time of writing – and that's out of 6,631 people who've given their rating to the film.

The film has taken seven years to reach the screen (well, a limited 503 screens in North America), having gained and lost the directors of The Notebook and Captain America: The First Avenger and a host of producers, which is why so many are credited.

Lionsgate were meant to distribute this year, but that partnership dissolved. The producers of the film said that they wanted the film to have a bigger release than what Lionsgate were planning. No, really.
