Peggy Carter is once again the star of the Marvel universe.

Despite her cancellation from television screens in 2016 and her big screen death in Captain America: Civil War the very same year, the SHIELD founder will have another starring role in the Marvel universe (although, not yet the cinematic one) in the comic book Exiles #3 when it's released later this year.

The comic, which is written by Saladin Ahmed, has already enticed many a Marvel fan by including alternative takes on characters like cartoon Wolverine, future Kamala Khan, and Thor: Ragnorak's Valkyrie.

And it's about to get even more enticing, as its third issue will introduce an alternate universe version of Peggy Carter who became Captain America.

Or, should we say, Captain Carter.

What to Read Next

It's not the first time in Marvel history that Carter has donned the Captain America cape though, as Marvel's mobile game Puzzle Quest also featured Peggy Carter as Captain America (in an alternative universe where Steve was assassinated before completing the Super Soldier Program).

Indeed, the continuity of the motif is continued in Exiles with the fact Carter uses the same uniform that Jae Tsai designed for the game.

And for those of you who still miss Peggy Carter in the MCU, don't worry – there is a fan campaign asking for Peggy (Hayley Atwell) to appear in the forthcoming Captain Marvel film alongside Brie Larson (which would work as it's set in the '90s, when Peggy would still be alive).

Fingers crossed that happens.

Exiles #3 will be available May 9.
