There are a LOT of superheroes in the MCU these days, with more joining every year.

With the ridiculous Marvel pile-up of Avengers: Infinity War looming ever closer, now seems like a good time to check in with the guys and see where they're all at.

1

Captain America

Last seen – Avengers: Infinity War Prelude
While technically the oldest Avengers member, World War II hero Steve Rogers is still looking fresh thanks to half a century trapped inside an ice cube.
After falling out with his fellow Avenger Iron Man over the UN's restrictive Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War, Steve went into hiding in Black Panther's secretive African kingdom, Wakanda, and continues to fight crime and global threats with his rogue Avengers allies.

Iron Man

Genius arms-manufacturer-turned-superhero Tony Stark kicked off the MCU with his 2008 solo movie before going on to help found the Avengers. Notoriously good at creating the villains that threaten him and his allies.
Iron Man fell out with Captain America over the Sokovia Accords and the Winter Soldier's murder of his parents. He is still working with the US government and the UN, and is preparing for a big intergalactic threat (i.e. Thanos) that he believes is heading for Earth.

Russian agent-turned-SHIELD superspy, Natasha Romanoff debuted in Iron Man 2 before becoming a founding member of the Avengers.
She sided with Iron Man in Civil War, but as the voice of reason sided with Cap when things started getting silly. She fell out with Stark and went on the run, hooking up with Cap and fighting alongside him in the shadows.

Hulk

Last seenThor: Ragnarok
While Bruce Banner's genius intellect made him a great help to the Avengers, his uncontrollable alter ego the Hulk proved to be a liability on various occasions. His bond with Black Widow managed to keep him in check (most of the time).
Banner went on the run at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, stealing an Avengers Quinjet and heading into space. He became stuck in Hulk form and fought his way to the position of champion on the planet Sakaar before reuniting with Thor. He was captured by Thanos along with his other allies.

Scarlet Witch

Last seenAvengers: Infinity War Prelude
Granted amazing powers along with her twin brother Pietro by HYDRA, Wanda Maximoff allied with Ultron, but eventually sided with the Avengers after the artificial intelligence revealed his homicidal intentions.
She became the focus of the Avengers' civil war after accidentally destroying a building in Lagos. She was imprisoned in the underwater prison the Raft, but was released with Cap's other Avengers and reunited in secret with her could-be lover, the Vision.

Flying army veteran Sam Wilson returned from duty in the Middle East to counsel other former military personnel suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder. He helped Captain America when he went on the run from the HYDRA-infiltrated SHIELD, and was the first to stick by Steve when he went rogue in Civil War.
Falcon was one of the Avengers imprisoned on the Raft. After his escape, he has been fighting alongside Cap and Black Widow under the authorities' radar.

Winter Soldier

Last seenBlack Panther
James Buchanan 'Bucky' Barnes was Captain America's best friend in the 1930s and '40s. He was left for dead during World War II, but was instead brainwashed by the terrorist group HYDRA and transformed into the mysterious assassin the Winter Soldier. Steve discovered that Bucky was still alive in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Bucky was framed for a bombing during Civil War, leading to the confrontation between Cap and Iron Man. He was put into cryogenic suspension in Wakanda, where Black Panther's sister Shuri devised a way to completely free him of his Soviet brainwashing. We last saw him recuperating by a peaceful lake. Lucky guy!

Prince T'Challa of Wakanda was introduced in Civil War, where he was also revealed to be the country's hereditary protector/superhero, the Black Panther. When his father was killed, he ascended to the throne and swore vengeance against the Winter Soldier (who was framed for the murder).
After learning an important lesson about revenge, Black Panther saw the error of his ways and offered shelter to Steve Rogers and his Avengers allies in Wakanda, whisking Cap and Bucky away from the Siberian facility where they fought Iron Man. Back home, T'Challa established himself as a the new king after a showdown with his long-lost cousin, Erik 'Killmonger' Stevens, and revealed Wakanda's secrets to the world.

Loki

Last seen – Thor: Ragnarok
Loki's most recent acts of 'mischief' included replacing Odin as king of Asgard without any of the daft populace working it out.
After doing the right thing (eventually, and under duress), Loki aided Thor and his allies against Hela and was instrumental in bringing about her destruction along with Asgard itself. He was one of the Asgardians captured by Thanos – but who else knows that he has the Tesseract/Space Stone in his possession?
