Dead Again, a neo-noir romantic mystery thriller released all the way back in 1991, has just been added to Netflix. Why is that important? Well, it's a (relatively) early performance from one of our most beloved of national treasures, Emma Thompson.

Okay, by this point she already had broken through with hits on radio, stage and screen, as well as having a Best Actress BAFTA under her belt, but this is only her third film credit, and in a genre you might not associate her with.

The film follows a private detective in Los Angeles who is roped into taking on the case of a woman with amnesia who can only say a couple of words. They turn to a hypnotist to try and work out what happened, and it turns out they might be more connected than they realise...

As well as Thompson, Dead Again stars Andy Garcia, Derek Jacobi, Robin Williams, Miriam Margolyes (in an uncredited cameo), Wayne Knight and Kenneth Branagh, who also directed the film and was Thompson's husband at the time.

While the film performed modestly at the box office, Jacobi received a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for this film, while composer Patrick Doyle was nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Original Score.

What to Read Next

The film was just added to Netflix in the last few days, so it should be on there for a while, and at the moment it's not available with any other subscription, although you can buy it rent it from all the usual digital stores.

And it's one worth checking out, with a very impressive score of 82% positive on Rotten Tomatoes from 55 reviews.
