A upcoming thriller film starring Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer has been branded "one of the best films of 2026". The Death of Robin Hood stars Jackman as the titular character of Robin Hood and is directed by Michael Sarnoski, who'd previously directed 2021's Pig.
Based on the 17th century ballad called Robin Hood's Death, the famed outlaw, now much older, reflects on his past filled with crime and murder after being left critically injured in battle, while Sister Brigid (Comer) tends to his wounds.
Alongside Jackman and Comer, the cast includes Nosferatu's Bill Skarsgård as Little John, Hood's faithful companion, Murray Bartlett, Noah Jupe, and Faith Delaney as Little Margaret.

The Death of Robin Hood isn't scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas until 4 September. However, US audiences get to see it a bit earlier when it lands in theatres on 19 June. But so far, attitudes have been pretty positive online.
A24, who is distributing the film, have retweeted a few noteworthy praises on X, including one person, who called it "one of the best films of 2026". They add: " Michael Sarnoski has made another tender meditation on mortality, vengeance, & redemption.
"Hugh Jackman plays Robin like King Lear, & it's brilliant. Pat Scola's lens captures the beauty amidst the bleakness. Magnificent."

"THE DEATH OF ROBIN HOOD trades in the familiar mythical story for one that is an introspective examination of cyclical traumas on the road to redemption," a third said. "Sarnoski presents a brutal yet somber world, utterly captivating in its meditation. Jackman delivers a strong performance."
While Jackman certainly looks impressive in his white hair and beard, it apparently took a while in the makeup chair. But luckily he had something to pass the time, which was music.
He told People: "It's not just me. I'm in a little mini team: Me, [hairstylist Sean Flanigan], and [makeup artist Pamela S. Westmore]. We've done a lot of films together. Sometimes we listen to a little bit of a book, [but] not very often.
"Mainly it's music, and we sort of go in different turns. We get sick of our own music, so we like hearing others."
The Death of Robin Hood will release in UK cinemas on 9 September.
